Her extensive experience developing and integrating accounting systems, processes and procedures within the convenience and retail petroleum arena spans more than 30 years.  Monique literally knows the business from the ground up!      

A Background in all Aspects of the C-Store Industry

Monique gained extensive experience in all aspects of the c-store industry after serving as Controller, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Accounting Officer for Family Express Corporation over the course of 30 years. Monique joined the company in 1988 when the company had just 10 locations. She was instrumental in its growth to nearly 80 owned and operated c-stores and fueling centers, a distribution center, bakery, commissary and print shop during her tenure at Family Express. In addition to specialized accounting and finance related functions, Monique worked firsthand on fuel procurement and distributing, warehousing and logistics, team building and talent development, bakery management, food service concept development and implementation.

In addition to her time at Family Express, Monique owned Small Business Accounting Service, LLC where she has helped 10 small business owners set up accounting systems, including payroll and tax services, as well as strategic planning related to growing their business.  She holds an MBA from Keller Graduate School and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Valparaiso University. She maintained her CPA license for 30 years with continuing education in tax, accounting and business management.

An Insider Perspective of Change Management Both in Small and Large Chains

Monique understands the value of people, productivity and the reality of making the right investments to support effective change. She has touched every aspect of growing a company from new building construction, to manufacturing, distribution, acquisition and point-of-sale systems. Her vast experience also includes the HR piece that accompanies growth. She was involved with the design and implementation of computer-based training programs, online applicant assessment and bonus program design. In addition, she also developed other electronic efficiencies such as electronic document sharing, and digitized documents to allow auditors to work remotely, and integrated ordering systems– all have positively impacted workflow and the bottom line.

Monique knows how to ask important questions, avoid pitfalls and help execute in a market that is changing dramatically. Although she has done her share of taste testing, Monique likes to emphasize that foodservice is way more than making food.
